Kamehameha Day

Apparently, yesterday was Kamehameha Day. It is a Hawaiian celebration in honor of King Kamehameha I, the chief who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1795. I imagine it to be kind of like Washington’s or Lincoln’s birthday, but with more flowers and dancing. The people of Kapa‘au decorate a statue of Kamehameha with a 22-foot-long floral lei which you can see in the photo above. It all sounds very festive and interesting. Check out http://www.kamehamehadaycelebration.org/ for more information on the celebration.
