During a press conference to release her new all-natural skin care line, Gisele Bundchen outwardly called sunscreen poison. “I cannot put this poison on my skin.” “I do not use anything synthetic.” (Quoted from Britain’s Daily Mail.)

This comment sent a fury of anger towards her from dermatologists and fans across the world. Taking the comment at face value, it’s easy to misinterpret the meaning or under-lying context for what she was referring to. Since then her publicist, Amber Clapp, has tried to clear the air by saying that Gisele, “simply stated that her all-natural skin care lind does not have SPF because there is not an all natural SPF available.” Also, that “when using sunscreens, she selects ones that are free of parabens, oxybenzone, PABA and retinyl palmitate.

I agree it is safer to use physical barrier sunscreens with active ingredients like zinc and titanium dioxide because they aren’t absorbed into the skin and are safer for those with sensitive skin. True. Sunscreen is an important part of a healthy sun-safe daily routine. We as consumers have to decide what is best for ourselves and our families.
