UV Skinz Team members put the finishing touches on our booth (#215) this past Friday in preparation for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference and Exhibition. The conference is being held in Orlando, FL at the Orange County Convention Center from October 26 – 28, 2013. Annually, AAP member and non-member physicians, residents, medical students, nurses and allied health members come together for practical updates and reviews of pediatric practice, research and advocacy. This year an expected 12,000 pediatricians and other health care professionals are registered to attend. The theme of the conference this year is Magical Moments (Disney inspired of course!). The magical moments of believing that each and every dream we have can be achieved if we work towards it.
Just like many health professionals attending the conference, we attend and exhibit because we believe that everyone should be educated on the importance of sun protection and establishing those healthy sun safe habits early. Our goal is to meet new partners who will help us spread the word about sun safety and effective sun protection. Just one severe sunburn as a child doubles a persons chance of being diagnosed with skin cancer as an adult. Founder of UV Skinz, Rhonda Sparks, explains why UV Skinz is a simple sun protection solution, “While our products only require one application for all day protection and carry a UPF rating of 50+, which blocks over 98% of the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays, most sunscreens require multiple applications for the same period of protection and do not block UVB rays.”
UV Skinz gives parents a hassle-free way to help their children stay protected (especially those with sun-induced medical conditions and allergies) and gives children more time to play and be free in the sun! 😉 It’s no wonder that our booth, stocked with lots of UV protective products and information, is doing so well at the AAP. UV Skinz Team member, Jim, reported that we have had an overwhelming amount of people who have shown interest and have been able to send lots of people home with their very own UV Skinz!
Our commitment to the education of children and their families about starting healthy sun protection habits early is highlighted every May when we donate thousands of our “What’s a Sunburn?” baby UV sun shirts to customers, pediatricians, and maternity wards across the nation in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month. “We hope that we can partner with even more pediatricians as we believe that all babies deserve quality protection from the sun. We’re committed to offering these shirts to raise awareness for the need of good sun protection from an early age,” says Rhonda. She adds, “Education is imperative to help eradicate this disease which is almost entirely preventable and it starts with the parents and the littlest members of the family.”
You can keep up with what is happening at the conference on our Facebook page. Updates and photos will be posted as they come!
