It’s that time of year again, where many of us make a promise (or a few) to ourselves and loved ones to make changes in our lives to better ourselves and live a more healthy, full life. Whether that’s calling your awesome mom more often or cutting sugar from your diet, we are big fans of anything that encourages a healthier happier you! Here are 5 of our favorite New Year’s resolutions:
Eat Healthier. This one may seem obvious and overstated, but it can seriously make all the difference in your health! Unhealthy eating can be a risk factor for chronic diseases including cancer, diabetes, obesity and heart disease, with some estimates linking 30% of cancers to poor diet. Eating healthier can not only help to avoid such chronic diseases, but it can increase your daily productivity and assist in stress reduction. Furthermore, eating foods rich in antioxidants (like fresh berries) and omega-3 fatty acids (such as flaxseed, walnuts and salmon) can help improve the health of your skin’s cells and slow premature aging. Take Time to Travel. Traveling is not only good for the soul, but it gives you the opportunity to create memories that give your life more pleasure and meaning. Traveling expands your perspective, reduces stress, increases your knowledge, allows for uninterrupted time to explore and helps us to be more social. Additional Tip – Don’t let a sunburn ruin your vacation and pack sun protective clothing like UV Skinz Sunwear so you can enjoy the outdoors more thoroughly!
Get More Sleep. Studies show getting insufficient sleep can negatively impact many aspects of your life, including your health, your mood and your weight. Yikes! So do yourself (and those closest to you) a favor and get the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep per night. According to Health.com, getting more sleep can spur creativity, improve athletic performance, increase focus, help you to avoid accidents and lower your stress levels…who’s ready for a nap?!
Spend more time with friends and family. Having strong social ties can potentially help you live a longer, healthier life, according to a study from Brigham Young University and the University of North Carolina. Also, according to another study conducted by University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers, spending quality time talking with mom can be a stress reliever (Moms are the best listeners ♡). UV Skinz employee suggestion: Have your family or a group of friends take turns hosting a game night!
Use Sun Protection Daily. Over exposure to UV radiation can cause sunburns, skin cancer, eye problems, and premature aging of the skin, so it’s vital you take measures to protect yourself while outdoors. Whether you’re on vacation, taking a run outside, driving your car, or checking the mail, you’re vulnerable to UV radiation. Because of this, you should be using sun protection daily, and practicing sun safe habits year-round. Do this by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30+ daily, and consider investing in sun protective clothing. Contrary to a generic cotton tee shirt, UV Skinz Sun Protective Clothing is designed specifically for those spending short and long periods of time outdoors, involving activities in or out of water, and made with specialized fibers that repel UV radiation while keeping you cool and protected from the sun. Additional sun-safe steps include wearing a wide brimmed hat, UV protective sunglasses, and seeking the shade during peak hours of the sun.
Here’s to a New Year and a New You! 🙂
