UV Skinz in an iPhone 5 Commercial!?

Is this a UV Skinz swim shirt???

This screen shot has got the UV Skinz office all in a buzz! Looks like this young boy in an iPhone 5 commercial is wearing a long-sleeved Casey UV protective swim shirt. Not only is he wearing a UV protective swim shirt, but this commercial was shown on National television! As much as we speak of awareness and being sun safe it is good to know that this knowledge is not falling on deaf ears.

It is becoming more socially acceptable to cover-up and to allow our children to make smart sun safe choices. Tan is on its way out!

UV Protective Swim Shirts Help Belize Twins Live a Normal Life

Over the Summer UV Skinz was contacted by an employee of ProWorld Belize, an organization that gives people the opportunity to travel abroad and volunteer in under privileged communities. Most villages have limited education and inadequate health services. During a routine mobile clinic visit, in the village of Bullet Tree, two young girls were seen by a Dermatologist for a genetic trait disorder. This non life-threatening disorder, actinic dermatitis, is caused by exposure to sunlight (photosensitivity). The UV rays cause them to develop blisters on their arms, faces and legs–anywhere the sun touches their skin. The only treatment is to stay out of UV light.

You could imagine the discomfort in a town where temperatures reach in the excess of 90 degrees. The Dermatologist suggested that avoiding direct exposure to sunlight and wearing clothing to protect their hypersensitive skin areas would be the best solution. That’s where UV Skinz came to the rescue! We sent the girls a package of long-sleeve UV protective shirts in modest colors so that they could layer them over their school uniform on the way to school. They will even be able to wear the UV protective swim shirts on their own because of the non-irritating flat lock stitching through out, breathable weave of the fabric and overall softness. We are so touched to be able to help these two beautiful girls attend school confidently and for them to live a normal life!  Now they will be able to avoid chronic infections and scarring associated with their sun-blisters.

About half of the children who get actinic dermatitis will have it as an adult. One good thing is that actinic dermatitis becomes milder with age. Treatment for actinic dermatitis parallels basic sun protection habits.

  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight during the hours of 10am-4pm
  • Wear appropriate clothing to protect hypersensitive areas.
  • Use sunscreen
  • Use of topical medication and other prescriptions provided by a doctor.

Feature Athlete: David Henry

David Henry is an avid golfer and uses his talent to support Melanoma awareness. He will never deny that he does it for his mother, who courageously battles the disease. You can read more about them on their MY Story. Here are David’s thoughts on why he chooses UV Skinz UV protective clothing.

1. What caused you to become interested in UV protective clothing?

I became interested in UV clothing after my mom was diagnosed with stage IV Malignant Melanoma.  Being a golfer requires the majority of my time in the sun.  I became more interested in it after I was diagnosed.
2. How did the fabric feel on your skin?

I find the clothing comfortable, cool and very diverse with my career.  I most recently let my caddy wear one of UVSkinz shirts and he fell in love with it.  Said it was the nicest shirt he’d ever worn.  I specifically like the fact that it’s not a heavy weight shirt and when I’m golfing and sweating it doesn’t stick to my skin and allows me to feel cool and comfortable.  I have received many compliments when I wear my UV protective shirts and it’s stylish in the life of a golf professional.
3. Would you recommend this shirt to your fellow golfers? Why?

I would urge anyone, especially golfers to try this product.  It could make a difference in saving your life as well as make you have that ease of mind that your body is protected while playing the game you love.  UVSkinz has quality products for a great price….they are comfortable, cool, washable, wearable and most importantly they protect your body.

People don’t realize the dangers of the sun and think just by applying sunblock you are safe.  Well that’s not always the case.  Wearing UV clothing protects your body more!  I have tried many different types of UV protective clothing but I can honestly say that UV Skinz overall products are far more advanced in every aspect.
