Miessence Review and Giveaway

The most important factor in protecting ourselves from skin damage and possible skin cancer is wearing an SPF sunscreen daily.  Using a good sunscreen is only the beginning, but to find a good sunscreen that is actually good for you is the key.

I have found a sunscreen that is 100% good for you, contains no artificial chemicals and can be used on your whole family. The Miessence Organics Reflect Outdoor Balm comes in SPF 15 and is USDA Certified Organic.  My family and I have been using the sunscreen for about two weeks now and I really love it.  I was really skeptical when I first saw the color of the sunscreen which is a silver gray color. One reason I never wore sunscreen growing up was because the only sunscreens available would turn my brown skin almost chalky white. I didn’t like the fact that you could actually see I was wearing sunscreen because it didn’t blend in. Unlike sunscreens of my childhood, the Misessence Reflect Outdoor Balm goes on so smooth and blends into your skin with a soft powdery feel and then disappears!

It contains all natural minerals and organic olive oil to keep your skin soft and supple. One-hundred percent of thier ingredients are beneficial. The Miessence Reflect Balm contains “natural Vitamin E, beta carotene and polygonum extract to protect the skin from premature ageing and prevent damage caused by the elements.”

I love the fact that when I read the label I was able to actually read and understand in plain English what the sunscreen is made of. I understand the words; olive, coconut, shea butter, beeswax, oat, vitamin E, rosemary and (the most important one) organic. You can see a full list of ingredients here on the Miessence website.

Miessense is 100% organic and we all know using organics supports the farmers who don’t pollute our environment with artificial fertilizers and pesticides. It has a pleasant smell which isn’t overpowering in any way.
Miessence has a broad range of facial care, body care, hair care, oral care, and  baby care products.

31501We had the chance to review one of their baby products, The Baby Bottom Mist. Which is officially a new hit in our household! It comes in a 1 oz spray bottle that fits perfectly in your hand. Just a couple sprays of the mist delivers a soothing and calming nappy are salve (for the diaper area). This is great for keeping those diaper rash areas soothed and with the mist there is no need to touch! I really wish I knew of  this when my 2-year-old, Faith, was a baby.   It was always messy dealing with those creams and I’m sure so uncomfortable  for her. The Baby Bottom Mist is not only hygienic, but also very convenient. It is “beneficial for itches, rashes, nicks, scrapes and cuts, sunburn, windburn and other skin irritations. Helps to restore skin to its natural healthy softness.”

The Baby Bottom Mist is a must-have and so is the Reflect Outdoor Balm!! Thanks to Miessence Organics you can WIN a Baby Bottom Mist and Reflect Outdoor Balm of your own! (Value: $44)

Cinching Reversible Bucket Hat…GIVEAWAY!

Wow!! I just read the title back to myself and it’s a mouthful! Try saying cinching-reversible-bucket-hat five times fast! Well, I would rather say a whole mouthful about a great hat than say skin cancer one time. Especially when it comes to my children.

Complete sun protection cannot be gained without the proper head wear!

Last week I wrote a post about how to get your child to wear a hat. The goal of the post was to share some tips I use and to receive some feedback back from the blog o’sphere, but I got nothin’ and my comment box is empty! What happened? Is hat-wearing not a concern for people or have you all been blessed with amazing hat-wearing-children? Or maybe you don’t have children and in that case you can’t relate personally to trying to get a baby or child to wear a hat, but you were once a child too. Was hat wearing a big priority when you were a child?

Well, I haven’t been blessed with hat-wearing-children and we are outside at least 70% of our day.  We take walks everywhere; to the park, store, library, bank, craft store, to get pizza on a Friday afternoon, back to the park, and just to explore. Before we moved to the valley, we enjoyed amazing-sunny-living-near-the-beach-weather (which I miss soooo much!) The valley is another story. We  really have to abide by the rule to stay out of the sun between the hours of 10am-4pm because being outdoors or walking around can be unbearable.  So, naturally I want Journey and Faith to wear their hats, but it can be a real battle sometimes and it can be hard to find a hat that will actually stay on while they are running and playing.

I do use the sun hats with the under chin strap, but that seems to irritate Faith the most and she will take her hat off just because the chin strap is uncomfortable. With the Cinching Reversible Bucket Hat it doesn’t have a chin strap, but a cinching elastic cord to keep the hat on your child’s head! The cinching cord is also a UV reactive bead that changes color when exposed to the sun.

These reversible, two-color bucket hats allow you to mix and match so that you can add just the right accent to your UV Skinz.

Today and all week long you get a chance to WIN one of these super cute hats!

What are UV Skinz?

The company was established after Rhonda Sparks, the Founder and President, lost her husband to skin cancer when he was just 32 years old in 2001. This sparked Rhonda's passion to raise awareness and educate others about sun protection, but never losing sight of how valuable it is to PLAY and HAVE FUN outdoors!
UV Skinz sun protective swim shirts are stylish and carry a UPF rating of 50+, which blocks out over 98% of the sun’s harmful rays, protecting delicate skin from damaging sunburns.
Everyone should feel free in the sun wearing UV Skinz. Its UV protection never washes off and it won't leave you with sunblock all over your hands as your naked toddler runs down the hall!
As a Mom and loyal UV Skinz customer, I love to hear your thoughts, comments, suggestions and questions! Just email me at kalisha(at)uvskinz(dot)com
