Eyes Cream Shades are the sweetest way to protect your children’s eyes from harmful uv rays! Faith Smith founded her company on  a common sense belief that children need to be protected with good quality sunglasses and not “toys” or novelty items on their eyes.

All of the sunglasses (prescription or non-prescription) block up to 100% of harmful UVA and UVB radiation from the sun. The lenses are made of a tough polycarbonate that are virtually shatter-proof. Eyes Cream Shades are especially designed for your kids ages 6 months and up!

You could WIN:

There will be a total of FOUR giveaway prizes. All winners will be randomly selected. Make sure you RSVP (bottom of post) in order to be eligible to win!

Don’t forget, it all happens on Wednesday, July 14th, from 9:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M. EST. The hashtag for the party is #fabfunuv.

Photo Story Friday…Michelle

 PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and Life With Kaishon

At the age of 30, I was diagnosed with Stage IIIB Malignant Melanoma.  My
Oncologist informed me that I had a 5 year survival rate of 50%.  I quickly
decided what side of that 50% I wanted to be on.  As a child, I grew up
spending my summers in the sun.  We had a pool in our backyard that I was in
all day everyday.  My “sun protection” was to wear a T-shirt over my bathing
suit.  As a fair-skinned, redhead my skin had three shades, white, pink or
freckled. I never thought about the damage the sun was doing to my skin.

As the years went by from my original diagnosis, I felt that I needed to
spread the word about sun protection but didn’t quite know how.  My sister
teaches second grade at an elementary school in Akron, Ohio so I asked her
if I could come speak to her class about sun protection.   So, three years
ago on Melanoma Monday, I did my first presentation to her class.  I had
each student make a UV bead necklace to help remind them to protect
themselves.  I partnered with UV Skinz who provided fun coloring and
activity pages filled with skin protection information.

Since then, I have returned each year to my sister’s classroom on the first
Monday in May to spread the news about being safe in the sun.  This year
through the generosity of UV Skinz, I was able to provide each student with
an umbrella hat and gave one lucky boy and girl a UV Skinz swim shirt.  If I
am able to reach at least one child and keep them from hearing the words,
“you have skin cancer”, it will be worth it.

Very cool UV Bead necklaces!

Aren't those fun UV-protected umbrella hats?!!

May 28th is “No Fry Day”!

To help reduce the rising rates of skin cancer, the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention has designated the Friday before Memorial Day as Don’t Fry Day. The Council’s goal is to encourage sun safety awareness by reminding everyone to protect their skin while enjoying the outdoors on Don’t Fry Day and every day. As a federal advisory member of the Council, EPA will raise awareness about Don’t Fry Day and the importance of sun protection around this date.

Last year the National Council suggested “slap on a hat” as key point in practicing sun protection, but this year they are asking everyone to use all of the action steps. Since no one alone could be effective in protecting to overexposure to uv radiation. Here are those steps. Take control and take action!

  • Avoid sun burning, intentional tanning, and using tanning beds.
  • Apply sunscreen generously.
  • Wear sun-protective clothing, wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses.
  • Seek shade.
  • Use extra caution near water, snow, and sand.
  • Get vitamin D through diet and vitamin D supplements
  •  An easy way to remember sun safety awareness is to Slip! Slop! Slap!…and Wrap — slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher, slap on a hat, and wrap on sunglasses. The best way to detect skin cancer early is to examine your skin regularly and recognize changes in moles and skin growths.

    Countdown to May 1st

There are only three days left until May 1st, which marks the start of National Skin Cancer Awareness Month and the UV Skinz I Saved A Baby’s Skin Campaign! Wow! That is a mouthful!! Talking about and spreading awareness about skin cancer should be just that. Most people are naive to the fact that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States.  Unlike popular belief only 23 percent of a person’s lifetime sun exposure occurs by age 18, not 80 percent.  A statistic that can’t be avoided is that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer during the course of a lifetime. That means that if it isn’t you then someone in your circle of friends, family, or church group will be diagnosed with skin cancer. That is why raising awareness and educating the public about this deadly cancer is so important.

Here at UV Skinz we will be amping up our already year-round efforts to “get kids covered” all over the world! During May, when you place an order with UV Skinz you will receive a complimentary baby skinz to donate to a child of your choice. Pass the gift of excellent uv protection and let us know all about it. Sun protection should be something to brag about!

Here are some ways to brag (A LOT!):

Spread the word and if you need a little inspiration check out this amazing PSA from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Thrill Hill Productions. Click the link from the Melanoma Research Alliance.
